Q. I have never worked with an interior designer before, how does this work?
A.
I will make an appointment with you to see your home or workplace.
During our first visit we’ll talk about what your design needs are, how
you want the space to ‘feel’, look and function. I will take
measurements, inventory items you wish to use/keep and get to know you
and your family so that I can incorporate the things that are important
to you into the design concept. From there I will work on your concept
for our next meeting. This is where the fun part starts. You’ll start
to see the materials, the concepts and the ideas that have been in your
head coming to life in your space.
Q. I am building a new (or remodeling a) kitchen and bathroom. Where should we start?
A.
The best place to start a kitchen or bath remodel is for you to do a
little homework on styles you like (or don’t like), determine the needs
and wants you and your partner have and figure out what your budget is.
From there hire a contractor/builder you trust (get references) to do
the work and hire a designer (get references) to help you with the
details to put together a good design. A great designer will show you
materials that you didn’t know exist and they will help you incorporate a
myriad of things that you aren’t thinking of. There are a lot of
decisions to be made in kitchen and bath design and you want someone who
is up to date on what materials are available, what’s functional for
your family and one who will incorporate important details into your
design that will make it unique to your home. Oh yeah…one more thing!
Make sure your contractor and your designer know and respect your
budget. EVERYONE has a budget and you want a team that shows you the
very best of what can be done with it.
Q. What is your experience in designing kitchen and bathrooms?
A.
Since 2007 I have been involved in over 100+ kitchens and bath remodels
or new builds in the KC area. I started out my design career working
for a local contracting company who installed flooring, countertops and
cabinetry. This is where I got a real education on how materials are
made or fabricated, how these materials are installed and where I
learned the process of how a kitchen and bath is constructed. I worked
for a very reputable company who took great care of their clients so I
saw first-hand how things are done the right way. I’ve carried that
knowledge into my own design business and have designed and managed
installs on over 23 kitchens and baths since I started Jules &
Company in the Fall of 2010. I take a lot of time to get to know my
clients and make sure that I help them through the process. I am
fortunate to have worked with wonderful clients who will provide
references for me. Just ask!
Q. I just need help with wall colors, do you make recommendations?
A.
Yes! Color consultations follow the outlined scenario from above
except I will leave you with color selections at our first meeting. I
will also have large color swatches mailed to you after our visit. If
you need a tweak after our meeting I’m happy to re-select one more time
at no additional cost.
Q. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for your initial visit?
A. I suggest that you do 3 things before our consultation:
2. Start a binder with your collection of these images
3. Think about items in your home that you want to incorporate into your new design and come up with a budget for the changes you want to make
4. I know I said three things but I this one’s important: Figure out a budget for your project. If you really don’t know I can help you estimate the costs based on your wants/needs.
At our meeting we’ll sift through these images and I will guide you to the materials and concept that meets your needs.

Q. We want to start on our project but we don’t have a contractor or even know if we need one? Where should we start?
Q. What if I want to do some of the work myself?
A.
GREAT! I appreciate do-it-yourself-ers and people who want to keep the
cost down with sweat equity. I can help you with the design or layout
to get you going in the right direction!

Julie
is a pleasure to work with and a talented interior decorator. She has
excellent vision and works hard to appeal to my personal style and
expand upon that concept. She is enthusiastic and organized and keeps
the ball rolling forward throughout the project. She is clear with
project definition and helps outline the scope of the project on the
front end to clarify parameters and stay within budget. She is friendly
and polite and works well with contractors, vendors, and all parties
involved in a remodel/decorating job. I loved working with Julie and
would recommend her to anyone seeking remodeling or decorating
improvements.
Nissa-Kitchen renovation, hearth room, 2011
Julie
assisted me in redecorating my kitchen a year ago. I was so pleased
with the makeover that I didn’t hesitate to call her for assistance in
redecorating my living room which was recently completed. When my
friends dropped by to see the final results, they were amazed at the
difference commenting, “You’re home should be featured on the HGTV!”
Julie is a true professional, offers a creative approach, and is most
sensitive to one’s personal style and budget. I highly recommend
Julie….she’s a top-notch designer!!
